Submissions sought for BU Books of 2006

In 2005, BU faculty and staff investigated a fraudulent financial scheme, explored the status of church congregations across America, and shattered conventional views on gender roles. And in every instance, they invited the entire BU community — and the world — to share the experience with them.

Tamar Frankel’s book,
Trust and Honesty,
explores corporate ethics.

More than 100 BU authors published novels, poetry collections, research studies, and social commentary in 2005. Tamar Frankel, a School of Law professor of law and the Michaels Faculty Research Scholar, assessed the ever-changing ethical landscape in the corporate world in Trust and Honesty, America’s Business Culture at a Crossroad (Oxford University Press). School of Medicine Biochemistry and Urology Professor Abdulmaged Traish (GRS’78, GSM’93), recipient of the 2006 Metcalf Cup and Prize, the University’s highest teaching honor, collaborated on Women’s Sexual Function and Dysfunction: Study, Diagnosis and Treatment. And Elie Wiesel (Hon.’74), BU’s Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and a University Professor, who was recently made a Knight of the British Empire, revisited Eastern Europe during World War II in his most recent novel, The Time of the Uprooted.

Elie Wiesel’s most
recent novel is The
Time of the Uprooted
.

The current year has also produced significant scholarship, including The Eighth Wonder of the World, the 10th novel from Leslie Epstein, director of BU’s Creative Writing program, and Village of Painters: Narrative Scrolls from West Bengal, an exploration of Bengali scroll painting by Frank Korom, a College of Arts and Sciences associate professor of religion and anthropology and a winner of a 2006 Guggenheim fellowship.

To keep the University community informed of work by fellow members, BU Today will publish BU Books of 2006, a comprehensive listing of publications by University faculty and staff, in February 2007. Any book authored, coauthored, edited, or coedited by a BU affiliate can be included on the list, but submissions must be for full books authored or edited, not for an individual chapter in a book or a paper published in a multi-author collection.

Authors and editors are invited to submit their books to the annual list by visiting the BU Books of 2006 Web site at id-andrea.cms-devl.bu.edu/books.  Submissions are due by Friday, January 5, 2007.
