Hello My Name Is

Name: James Gagnon
From: South Boston, Massachusetts
School: College of Arts and Sciences
Intended Major: Political Science

What convinced you to go to BU?

I love Boston so the fact that BU is in Boston was a major plus. I also come from a really small school and going from being the big fish in the little pond to the little fish in the big pond was also enticing. I’ve only had to compete with about 100 kids in high school — I want to see how I hold up against a couple thousand.

What are you most excited about coming to college?

Definitely meeting people from all different backgrounds. Coming from the inner-city, I’ve met people of all colors and creeds and learned a lot from them. I’m looking forward to meeting more people whose lifestyles are different from my own. That and the partying of course.

What course are you most interested in taking?

Political science courses and philosophy courses.

What kinds of activities do you want to become involved in?

The student newspaper The Daily Free Press, some club sports, and a plethora of other things.

What will you miss most about home?

The familiarity that comes with being in your own house.

What is an accomplishment of yours that you are proud of?

Where I come from going to college is wishful thinking. Going to a school like BU, that’s just pipe-dreaming. Well, I made that pipe-dream a reality, despite all the hardships that come from living in Boston’s inner-city.

There is a Facebook site dedicated to the BU Class of 2010. You are listed as the Web site officer representing CAS. Why did you decide to become involved?

I figured that Facebook would be an easier way to meet fellow 2010’ers than Myspace, though I’ve used both to meet people.

Has it helped you make friends?

Definitely.

Will you meet up with some in person when you get to BU?

I already have.
