Daniel Remick recently was appointed chief of the Boston Medical Center division of pathology and a professor and chairman of the department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. Remick previously was a professor of pathology and assistant dean at the University of Michigan Medical School.

The newly minted chief and chairman says that his greatest challenge will be to expand the high-quality research in the pathology department while adding to its “existing strong infrastructure … and excellence in service and teaching.” Remick, who has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, has served as the chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) surgery, anesthesiology, and trauma study section.

“Dr. Remick is an outstanding academician who has been a leader in research and education,” says Karen Antman, MED dean and provost of the Boston University Medical Campus. “We look forward to working with him.” Three NIH grants fund Remick’s current research interests, which include examining the inflammatory response in patients with severe infections and patients with asthma as well as deciphering the molecular pathways that regulate ongoing inflammation.

“I am very excited about the position as chair of pathology at the Boston University School of Medicine,” says Remick. “Pathology at Boston University is poised to move up to the next level.”
