Matthew Nuhn was recently appointed an assistant professor of surgery at Boston University School of Medicine and chief of transplant surgery in the Boston Medical Center department of surgery.

Nuhn hopes to expand the kidney transplant program at BMC and to create other organ transplant programs. “Once we’ve established the clinical aspect, meaning growth of the kidney program, and created a pancreas program and a collaborative liver transplant program with the Lahey Clinic, I’m going to be hiring another surgeon as well,” he says. “We will start clinical trials and basic science research as well as have the kidney transplant fellowship reaccredited this summer.”

Previously, Nuhn was an assistant professor at Tulane University School of Medicine’s department of surgery. While at Tulane, he and his partners performed Louisiana’s first small bowel transplant. Nuhn earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine, followed by a three-year, multi-organ abdominal transplant fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Nuhn is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the Transplantation Society.
