Stephanie Lovell (LAW’85), former first assistant attorney general of Massachusetts, has been appointed vice president and general counsel of Boston Medical Center.

“Stephanie brings a wealth of experience to this role, and we are delighted to have her join BMC,” says Elaine Ullian, BMC president and CEO.

Lovell spent more than six years in the Office of the Attorney General, including three years as first assistant attorney general, the office’s second-in-command. She supervised several bureau chiefs and regional directors and was responsible for 200 lawyers and more than 200 State Police personnel, investigators, paralegals, financial analysts, and other professionals. Before joining the attorney general’s office in 2000, Lovell held senior positions at the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. She also served as litigation counsel for the Boston School Committee.

In January, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce awarded Lovell the 2007 Pinnacle Award for Achievement in Management, Government, in recognition of her public service contributions.

Lovell came to BMC on March 19. “Everything this institution does is impacted by the state and federal government,” she says. “I’m going to use my familiarity with those arenas to help identify areas where we can move forward and improve those relationships.”
