A five-part series on this year's sports highlights

Cori Lefkowith (COM'09) won the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer.

Whether they were on the field, the track, or the court, Boston University’s athletic teams posted solid campaigns during the 2006–2007 academic year. Six women’s squads — cross-country, field hockey, indoor track and field, tennis, golf, and lacrosse — captured America East conference titles. As a result, BU snapped up its fifth America East Commissioner’s Cup, given to the athletic program with the highest score in the conference, in the past six years.

This week’s series features some of the shining sports moments covered by BU Today during the year’s winter and spring seasons. Part Three: Women’s Tennis Wins 14th Straight America East Title

By Megan Bradshaw

Boston University continued its dominance of the America East women’s tennis championship as the top-seeded Terriers swept the number-three University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 4-0, in the title match at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn., on April 29.

The victory gave Boston University its 14th straight conference crown and 18 wins in the 19 title events in league history, and earned the team America East’s automatic bid to the NCAA championship.

The Terriers earned the doubles point as cocaptain Erin Katims (CAS’07) and Francine Whu (CAS’10) won at the number-one spot (8-0) and Rebecca Row (CAS’10) and Yana Sadovskaya (SMG’09) were victorious in the number-three hole (8-4).

Whu took her match at number-four singles, and Elizabeth Corrao (CGS’08) won at number-six singles. Cori Lefkowith (COM’09), en route to picking up the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer honors, as voted by the league’s head coaches, earned a win at number-five singles.
