Meet Cydney Gottlieb (COM’11)

Cydney Gottlieb (COM'11) is looking forward to breaking free from her hometown “bubble.”

Name: Cydney Gottlieb
From: Toledo, Ohio
School: College of Communication
Major: Creative Advertising

Why did you choose BU?
BU has an amazing faculty, most of whom do what they teach outside of the classroom. The communication programs are definitely impressive. Most importantly, during the Accepted Students Open House, Judith Austin, an associate professor of advertising and public relations, showed me that I could incorporate the fine arts and communications within my major — she inspired me.

What are you most looking forward to about Boston?
Exploring the city! Also, classes, I suppose! :-P In all seriousness, I am just looking forward to meeting new people and being exposed to a new lifestyle. All of my experiences at BU will contribute to who I am and who I become.

What will you miss most about home?

I will, of course, miss family and close friends. Something about the Midwest is comforting, but Bostonians are all so helpful and kind! They have a certain kind of pizzazz to them.

What will you miss least about home?
Everyone in my village — yes, I live in a village! — is incredibly caring, but there is almost an overload of security. It will be fun to break free from the bubble, even though I will probably miss it at times.

Describe your favorite high school memory.

I had a blast at almost all of the high school dances! Everyone says that getting ready is the fun part, which, in part, is true, but afterwards is the most fun — just chillin’ with your friends at someone’s house.

What high school activities do you hope to continue with at BU?
I would love to continue with dance after my back injury is fully healed, and I want to stay involved with multicultural organizations and language clubs.

What new activities do you want to try?
Although I don’t always have the most school spirit when it comes to attending games, I do want to see what this BU hockey fuss is all about!

What is one of your long-term goals during your time at BU?

Hopefully, I will find useful internships — I want to really work to ensure that I’ll have a career after graduation. I believe that BU will help me with the preparation that I need!

What are you doing this summer to get ready for your first year of college?

I am exploring Italy and immersing myself in another new environment! I am paying my own way and am now completely broke, but it is worth the experience. I will be staying with my best friend who was an AFS exchange student during our junior year of high school.
