Barbara (Lapidus) Birenbaum

Barbara (Lapidus) Birenbaum (Wheelock’65) of Clearwater, Fla., writes that her 15th book, Groundhogs Across America (Peartree, 2016), earned the 2018 Academics’ Choice Smart Book Award in Historical Nonfiction and the Florida Authors and Publishers Association’s President’s Choice Silver Medal for Best Children’s Nonfiction in 2017. Barbara is a naturalist who enjoys writing about the nuances of animals, interrelating their lives with historical and factual information and relevance in today’s world. Barbara has formerly served as poet-in-residence of Pinellas County, Fla. At BU, she was actively involved in the founding of Hillel and was a “dorm mother” in the Towers for coeds.
