Bonnie Brunkhorst
Bonnie Brunkhorst (CAS’61, GRS’62) of Riverside, Calif., taught earth sciences in the Lexington, Mass., school system for 16 years, then earned a PhD in geology and science education at the University of Iowa. She became a professor of geological sciences and science education at California State University, San Bernardino, and during that time was elected president of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and subsequently chair of the National Council of Scientific Presidents. In addition, she was named an associate member of the National Academy of Sciences, was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and has received lifetime membership in the California Science Teachers Association and the Washington State Science Teachers Association. She also received the NSTA Robert H. Carleton Award, which recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to science education at the national level.
