David R. Goldfarb (Questrom’70) of West Hartford, Conn., writes, “I graduated from Boston University’s MBA program in 1970. I feel today, as I did then, that I had received an excellent and ideal education. I began my initial endeavors in public accounting, and continued learning and combining my master’s education with the tax and accounting profession. I continued along this path for 11 years, becoming a certified public accountant during that time. In early 1982, I began my career at the Connecticut Hospice, Inc., as the chief accountant. As I rose through the ranks to be chief financial officer, I would almost daily see people being admitted with life-threatening illnesses. One of the admission criteria is a certification by a physician that a patient has six months or less to live. By seeing these patients being given the best care that could be provided for a person in that stage of life, I felt that I was able to combine my formal education with a grateful awareness for human life. Throughout these years, I was able to take on various positions in my synagogue and presently I am the ‘gabbai,’ or sexton, a position I have held for 24 years. On June 13, 2018, I received the Henry M. Zachs Spirit of Judaism Award from the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford for the various contributions I have made to the Greater Hartford community. As a part-time retiree, I am also committing many hours per week as a volunteer at the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.”
