Dick Silverman

Dick Silverman (COM’77) of Port Washington, N.Y., received the first Fashion Without Limits media award for his pioneering coverage of fashion and beauty for women of any size or shape. The award was created and presented to him by Emme Aronson (left), the first full-figured supermodel. Dick retired in 2009 after working for more than 30 years as a journalist covering the international fashion industry with Fairchild Publications. The award, Dick writes, is a Corning glass statuette created especially for the occasion. At BU, Dick was editor in chief of BU News and routinely wrote for publications such as the Phoenix and the Real Paper. He started his first full-time job as a journalist just weeks after earning his degree from BU. He was the editor of weekly newspapers in Hampton, N.H., and Sudbury, Mass., before joining the Boston bureau of Fairchild Publications. He worked for Footwear News, the world’s leading trade publication for the international shoe industry, becoming executive editor and associate publisher.
