Herman O. Kelly, Jr.
Herman O. Kelly, Jr. (STH’83) of Baton Rouge, La., is the pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. In February, he presented a paper titled “The Black Rhetorical Traditions in the Civil Rights Movement” at the National African and African American Studies Conference in Dallas, Tex. Herman is an adjunct professor at Louisiana State University’s African and African American studies program and its College of Education. He also writes that he was the state champion in the Louisiana Senior Olympic Games, having won gold in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, and 100m individual medley. He represented Louisiana in the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, N.M., in June 2018.
