Larry Istrail

Larry Istrail (Sargent’09,’11) of Falls Church, Va., a physician, launched the company Pheo Coffee in January 2018. Each type of coffee Pheo offers honors a medical discovery, and a portion of the proceeds directly funds surgeries in developing countries. “So far we have funded 12 surgeries,” Larry writes. According to the website, “A ‘pheochromocytoma’ is a rare condition in which your body releases far more adrenaline than is necessary, resulting in a set of symptoms that can feel like the effects of a really strong cup of coffee.
