Lindsey Parietti
Lindsey Parietti (CAS’07, COM’07) of Bristol, England, won a Student British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award in June 2018 for her documentary, Blood Island. The film unravels the emotionally charged story of hundreds of chimpanzees captured and bred in Liberia, West Africa, for medical research by the New York Blood Center. Retired to an island colony, the chimps are left to fend for themselves and are on the brink of starvation when an unlikely hero emerges and leads a surprising fight for their lives. The film was nominated for the 2018 Wildscreen Panda Awards in the Emerging Talent and Short Film categories. Dubbed the “Green Oscars,” the Panda Awards are the most prestigious honor in the wildlife film and television industry. This is Lindsey’s first film. She spent most of her career as a journalist in Egypt and Africa, covering the Egyptian revolution, politics, and the environment, and cofounding an online news site. She moved from Egypt to England in 2016 to pursue a master’s degree in wildlife filmmaking at the University of the West of England. She filmedBlood Island in just two and a half days on location in Liberia as part of her degree program and is the university’s first filmmaker to win a BAFTA.
