
Rosemary Engstrom

Rosemary Engstrom is a photographer and educator from Northern California with an interest in disrupting binaries through constructing photographs and performing for the camera. She received her BA from The Evergreen State College, where she studied art and education, and earned an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Engstrom managed a photo lab for three years before beginning her teaching career at Boston University. In addition, she works one-on-one with disabled artists and volunteers with RIOT RI, empowering at-risk youth through music making. Engstrom encourages students to use interests and passions as fluid material for their creative process. She strives to do the same within her own practice. Engstrom has been part of numerous joint and solo exhibitions worldwide. She has been featured in Posture Magazine and Mask Magazine. Her self-published book titled “Pretend Power” can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art Watson Library Permanent Collection.
