Through performance opportunities, comprehensive training, and collaborations with accomplished musicians and artists, undergraduates are presented with an array of opportunities to hear and discover diverse musical styles and develop the skills necessary to navigate the professional world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curriculum requirements for the BM in Composition &amp; Theory can be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cfa\/programs\/school-of-music\/composition\/bm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academic Bulletin.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-bu-buniverse wp-block-global-buniverse\"><div class=\"wp-block-global-buniverse-wrapper\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.bu.edu\/buniverse\/interface\/embed\/embed.html?v=1zQ2bx0&amp;jsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div><figcaption><p class=\"wp-block-global-buniverse-caption wp-prepress-component-caption\">Ana\u00eds Azul writes a piece for the Chamber Orchestra of Boston.<\/p><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"headline-1\" class=\"wp-block-editorial-headline is-style-default\">Program of Study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Students receive one-on-one instruction in both composition and on an instrument\/voice for all four years. Rigorous courses in music theory and music history are offered, and a broad curriculum provides an excellent foundation for further studies. Students are encouraged to find their own voice in a collegial environment where all viewpoints are welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">The weekly Composers\u2019 Forum is an opportunity for visiting guests to present their music and for students to share their own music with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Annual award opportunities include the Composition Competition for Performance with Orchestra, the two Wainwright prizes, and Departmental Honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">A small department, the Composition &amp; Theory program encourages an open, collaborative, entrepreneurial sense both inside and outside the classroom. The outstanding quality of faculty and students in both the Department and the entire School of Music. Openness of colleagues to be collaborative and entrepreneurial both in and outside of the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Students join an international community of faculty and alumni who are music theorists, performers, conductors, and composers.
