Boston University’s April 2023 Symphony Hall concert was one for the books.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

BU College of Fine Arts School of Music performed for a capacity crowd at Boston’s historic Symphony Hall<\/a> on Saturday, April 1, 2021. The concert featured the School\u2019s exceptional ensembles<\/a>, including Boston University Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Chorus, and Wind Ensemble, in a magnificent capstone performance closing out a year of celebrations marking BU School of Music’s 150th year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maestro James Burton<\/strong><\/a>, Director of Orchestral Activities at BU; Master Lecturer, Music; and Boston Symphony Orchestra\u2019s Choral Director, led the BU Symphony Orchestra & Symphonic Chorus performing Gustav Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 2 \u201cResurrection\u201d with Chorus Master William Cutter<\/strong> (CFA\u201987,\u201989) and soloists Addison Pattillo<\/strong> (CFA\u201923), Soprano, and Alexis Peart<\/strong> (CFA\u201923), Mezzo-Soprano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Martins<\/strong><\/a>, Master Lecturer; Director of BU Wind Ensemble; and Chair of Ensembles Department, conducted the BU Wind Ensemble performing James Stephenson\u2019s Symphony No. 2 \u201cVoices\u201d with soloist Olivia Schurke<\/strong> (CFA\u201923), Mezzo-Soprano. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BU Wind Ensemble also performed Legacy <\/em>by Kenneth Amis<\/strong><\/a> (CFA\u201991, BUTI\u201986,\u201987), BU School of Music Lecturer in Music, Tuba. According to Amis, Legacy <\/em>has an aesthetic connection to the late 19th<\/sup> century, given the reflection on the year 1872, and can be enjoyed and appreciated by more than just music majors and people with formal music training. Amis will be designated the new director and conductor of the BU Wind Ensemble program, following the retirement of David Martins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
