{"id":4561,"date":"2022-06-08T08:58:49","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T12:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/id-andrea.cms-devl.bu.edu\/cfa\/?page_id=4561"},"modified":"2023-10-19T16:28:39","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T20:28:39","slug":"design-production-management-core","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/id-andrea.cms-devl.bu.edu\/cfa\/theatre\/design-production-management-core\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Theatre Design, Production, and Management Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before officially declaring a BFA major, each first-year student entering the School of Theatre is admitted into a First Year Theatre Core curriculum, in either Design, Production &amp; Management or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/id-andrea.cms-devl.bu.edu\/cfa\/theatre\/performance-core\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During each year of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, courses in the major follow a carefully integrated sequence of class exercises and production assignments. Additionally, the School of Theatre provides for artist-scholars and scholar-artists to experience all the opportunities of a Research 1 university as they deepen their knowledge of foundational techniques within the art form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Not only does the <strong>First Year Theatre Core<\/strong> serve to begin a sequence for the next four years of creative exploration and collaboration; it also sets the tone for the professional path essential to the <strong>BFA Theatre<\/strong> and <strong>BFA Theatre Arts programs<\/strong> at BU School of Theatre\u2013\u2013and the standard of practice which distinguishes our many working alumni in the profession.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By creating a base of artistic and technical skills, students begin to explore the breadth and depth of what it means to be a theatre artist in professional theatre today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/id-andrea.cms-devl.bu.edu\/cfa\/theatre\/admissions-auditions\/undergraduate\/design-production-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Design, Production, &amp; Management Core Admissions<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Design, Production &amp; Management Core Curriculum<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>DP&amp;M Core <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides the groundwork for future study in the BFA Costume Design &amp; Production, Lighting Design, Scene Design, Sound Design, Stage Management, Technical Production, or Theatre Arts-Design &amp; Production, or BFA Theatre Arts\u2013\u2013Design, Production, and Management. Students take courses in design, drafting, with electives available in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, and Figure Drawing.
