He has been praised for his \u201cimpressive tenor, singing with force and ease throughout his range, with ringing tone at full voice, thoughtful in quieter moments.\u201d(<em>Houston Chronicle<\/em>) The tenor begins the 2019 \u20132020 season with the tenor soloist in Orff\u2019s <em>Carmina Burana<\/em> and the tenor soloist in Hayden\u2019s <em>The Creation<\/em> with the Hudson Valley Singers in New York City and COVID-19 canceled performances of Don Jose from Bizet\u2019s <em>Carmen<\/em> with Orlando Opera and Don Jose from Peter Brook\u2019s <em>La trag\u00e9die de Carmen<\/em> with Orlando Ballet.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2017 \u20132018 season, Guzman portrayed Orpheus in <em>Orpheus in the Underworld<\/em> in a return engagement with Western Plains Opera. Other engagements include the role of Alfredo in <em>La Traviata<\/em> with Sarasota Opera, the tenor soloist in Carmina Burana with both the Minot Symphony Association and the Hartford Symphony, the Duke in <em>Rigoletto<\/em> with Western Plains Opera, Leicester in <em>Maria Stuarda<\/em> with Knoxville Opera, and cover the role of Edgardo with Lyric Opera of Chicago in <em>Lucia di Lammermoor<\/em>. As Ramiro in <em>La Cenerentola<\/em> with Opera Tampa, he was singled out for his \u201cbright and power tenor that hits a bull\u2019s-eye on distant targets.\u201d (<em>Tampa Bay Times<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>During the previous season, he performed as Edgardo in <em>Lucia di Lammermoor<\/em> with Heartbeat Opera and covered the role of Aureliano in Rossini\u2019s <em>Aureliano<\/em> in Palmira at the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts. Other credits include the Duke in <em>Rigoletto<\/em> with Opera Tampa, Rafael of Foglia\/Martinez\u2019s <em>To Cross the Face of the Moon<\/em> with Arizona Opera, as well as performances with Lyric Opera of San Diego, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, and at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. He holds a BA in Music Education from Universidad Pedagogica Nacional de Colombia, an MM in Voice Performance from Texas Christian University, and a DMA in Voice Performance from SUNY at Stony Brook. His recent CD release, Latin-American Art Songs, is the first result of his continuous research of forgotten Latin-American art song repertoire and performance practices.
