Immediate family members are the employee\u2019s spouse, parents, parents-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, children, and members of the same household.<\/p>\n<p><strong>305.2 Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All regular, full-time employees and regular, part-time employees are eligible\u00a0upon hire for Sympathy Leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>305.3 Length of Leave<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eligible employees may be granted up to three (3) days of Sympathy Leave\u00a0for the death of an immediate family member.<\/p>\n<p><strong>305.4 Compensation and Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Employees maintain their regular pay and benefits while absent from work on\u00a0an approved Sympathy Leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>305.5 Requests and Approvals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Employees should request Sympathy Leave from their immediate supervisor\u00a0by informing him or her of the death and the number of days requested.\u00a0Supervisors are responsible for obtaining departmental decisions and\u00a0communicating them in writing to the employees. Approvals must clearly define\u00a0the duration of the absence and the date the employee is expected to return to\u00a0work. Department Heads are authorized to approve requests for Sympathy\u00a0Leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>305.6 Other Provisions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under special circumstances, an employee may require more than the three-day\u00a0Sympathy Leave period. An employee may request additional time off from\u00a0his or her supervisor. The additional time off must be charged to accrued\u00a0Vacation Leave, available Personal Days, available Compensatory Time Off, or\u00a0taken as Unpaid Time Off.<\/p>\n<p>An absence from work in the event of the death of a person who is not an\u00a0immediate family member will be charged to the employee\u2019s accrued Vacation\u00a0Leave, available Personal Days, or taken as Unpaid Time Off. Employees must\u00a0request such absences from their immediate supervisor.
