Nermeen Dashoush, a clinical assistant professor in BU Wheelock’s Early Childhood Education program, has been nominated for an International Kids Emmy as part of her work on World School, an educational media application designed to facilitate STEAM engagement during early learning.

Dashoush serves as chief curriculum officer for MarcoPolo Learning, a UK-based digital learning platform, and was lead educator on World School, which is one of three media properties nominated in the International Kids Emmy Awards Digital category.

“We were thrilled to hear that our work was being recognized,” says Dashoush. “World School has been a collaboration of early childhood educators with artists, developers, writers, producers, musicians, and so [many] more–there is a lot of work and [careful] thought that goes into the process [so] this nomination is a nod to all of our work.”

World School offers a subscription-based, preschool-level education with a focus on STEAM curriculum. It is designed to complement children’s engagement with their individual environments by introducing vital subjects like art, science, and social studies at a young age.

Dashoush, whose work focuses on working with educators to bring science into the classroom, says that “digital learning platforms like World School allow us to expand our reach outside of the school walls. Children are increasingly engaging in science through apps, television shows, and YouTube and we need to leverage this learning opportunity and assure that their experience is thoughtful, developmentally appropriate and engaging.”
