Counseling Psychology professor V. Scott Solberg was named the Massachusetts School Counselors Association (MASCA) 2019 School Counselor Educator of the Year. He was honored at the MASCA 2019 conference in Hyannis, Mass.

This award recognizes the many contributions Solberg has made to his professional field here in Massachusetts, including work conducted with the Rennie Center for Education Research and Policy, MassINC, and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

That Mass DESE partnership led to the establishment of the Massachusetts Institute for College and Career Readiness, which aims to build capacity among districts serving high-need youth populations to engage in career development efforts.

This past academic year, Solberg worked with DESE and PCG to design and implement a three-workshop College and Career Advising (CCA) Program with 80 Massachusetts schools. They expect to repeat the program with 80 additional high schools during the 2019/20 academic year.

Most recently, Solberg contributed to the development and publication of the national Coalition for Career Development’s (CCD) white paper Career Readiness for All, which was released at an event at the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington, D.C., which included congressional representatives from both parties.
