Kimberly Howard, BU Wheelock associate professor of counseling psychology & applied human development has been chosen as chair-elect of the American Psychological Association’s Coalition for Psychology in Schools and Education (CPSE). She will take over as chair in 2021.

CPSE aims to improve the quality of the psychology offered in teacher preparation and professional development; collaborate with other professions that address the needs of children; and make education and schooling more central to APA’s agenda.

“This is a dynamic, passionate group of psychologists from across a wide range of disciplines in psychology, all of whom are dedicated to supporting the positive educational experiences of children and youth,” says Howard, who is also the director of training for BU Wheelock’s Counseling Psychology PhD program.

At BU Wheelock, Howard’s research interests include the examination of the career development process of diverse, low-income youth. She studies factors that promote vocational development and resilience and the reasoning processes used by children and youth to understand career development processes. She also explores the roles that counseling psychologists can play in supporting and improving public education.
