Arcot and Bass are PhD students, and Brown and Reeves are master\u2019s students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Holmes Scholar program, which is managed by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), provides graduate students of color with funding to attend an annual academic conference where they can present their research and build relationships with other scholars across the country. This gives students of color the opportunity to make connections with other traditionally underrepresented students, faculty and college administrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Connecting student leaders <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConnecting with other BU grad student leaders of color was a great start to my experience,\u201d says Bass, a special education doctoral student who focuses on teacher preparation, teacher diversity, and education policy. \u201cI\u2019m excited to return to the AACTE conference next year so I can keep learning and connecting with other scholars in my field.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bu-pullquote news-block-bu-pullquote has-image-focus-center-middle\"><div class=\"wp-block-bu-pullquote-inner\"><figure><\/figure><blockquote><div class=\"container-lockup\"><div class=\"container-icon-outer\"><div class=\"container-icon-inner\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"container-text\"><hr\/><div class=\"quote-sizing\">\u201cIt\u2019s important to create the ability for historically underrepresented students to network with other students of color.\u201d<\/div><footer class=\"caption\">Michael Dennehy, College Access &amp; Student Services<\/footer><hr\/><\/div><\/div><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Created in 1991 by the Holmes Group, the Holmes Scholar program has been managed by AACTE since 2010.
