Boston’s longest running outdoor concert series, Mayor Menino’s Wednesday Night Concerts brings the music of Frank Sinatra to the city tonight at City Hall Plaza at 7 p.m. The concert, titled Strictly Sinatra and featuring crooner Michael Dutra, is free and open to the public.
During the concert Dutra, whose voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Sinatra’s and who happens to share the legendary singer’s birthday, will perform renditions of Sinatra classics, from a repertoire of 500 songs. Like his idol, Dutra has had no formal voice coaching, but he performs 300 nights a year.
Tonight’s performance marks the halfway point in the five-concert series, now in its 41st season. The program is presented by Mayor Thomas M. Menino (Hon.’01), the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism, and Special Events, and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. The last two performances of the series will be by Charlie Thomas & the Drifters, on Wednesday, August 21, and Roberta Flack on Wednesday, August 28.
The Wednesday Night Concerts are free and open to the public and are held at Boston City Hall Plaza at 7 p.m. By public transportation, take an MBTA Green Line trolley to Government Center.
