Student Hit by Van Has Apparently Non-Life-Threatening Injuries
Tried to cross Comm Ave as red light turned green, police say
Police say an 18-year-old BU student was struck by a van while attempting to dash across the street.
An 18-year-old BU student suffered apparently non-life-threatening injuries Thursday morning when he was hit by a van while attempting to cross Commonwealth Avenue.
The rush-hour mishap occurred shortly after 7 a.m., when the student reportedly tried to dart across westbound Comm Ave at the crosswalk in front of the College of Fine Arts. Sgt. Dan Healy of the Boston University Police Department said the student dashed just after the stoplight had turned green.
“He was just trying to get across, and the light turned at the same moment. I don’t think the driver of the vehicle saw him,” said Healy, who declined to identify either the student or the driver. The student was taken to the hospital with an apparent leg injury, he said.
The driver of the Honda Odyssey van, who was shaken but uninjured, was driving at “a slow rate of speed,” Healy said.
