Weekly Summer Food Truck Festival Tonight
Boston StrEATS! in South End offers range of cuisines

Trolley Dogs, “The Duke of Dogs,” is just one of the eight food trucks on hand tonight as part of the StrEATS food truck festival, held every Thursday in Franklin Square in the South End. In addition to traditional franks, Trolley Dogs offers Tex-Mex and California hot dogs, all made with 100 percent beef. Photo courtesy of Food Truck Festival of New England
Don’t feel like making dinner tonight? No problem. Whether you’re in the mood for Mexican, Italian, or Asian-style cuisine, you’ll find it all available (plus dessert) at the Boston StrEATS food truck festival, held each Thursday in the South End’s Franklin Square.
The event features nine food trucks parked around the square from 5 to 9 p.m. and live music performed by local artists. Enjoy a hot dog and Italian ice from Trolley Dogs, or sample some authentic Chilean dishes from the Pomaire Chilean Grill truck. You may unleash your inner carnivore at the M&Mribs BBQ truck, which serves not only ribs, but chicken and beef, with hearty sides of coleslaw or potatoes. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth that needs tending, be sure not to leave without trying something from Frozen Hoagies, a dessert truck famous for its homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches and unique flavors, like pumpkin, caramel apple, and Nutella.
Boston StrEATS launched last August as a collaboration between Food Truck Festivals of America, Washington/Gateway Main Street, and the Blackstone/Franklin Square Neighborhood Association. Billing itself as the first weekly evening food truck event in Boston, Boston StrEATS has grown from from six to nine food truck vendors at the Franklin Square venue, and smaller-scale versions can now be found every Tuesday night in Somerville’s Powder House Square (four food trucks) and every Wednesday at the Landmark Quad in Cambridge’s Central Square (five food trucks). The Somerville and Central Square venues also feature a beer garden for adults 21 and over.
Other vendors at Franklin Square:
The Bacon Truck
The Bacon Truck is founded on the credo that “people are endowed with certain inalienable rights: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Bacon.” Virtually everything on the menu incorporates Blackstone Street Smokehouse’s thick-cut, applewood-smoked bacon, from the classic BLT to grilled cheese and scallion hash, and even Nutella-flavored bacon desserts.
Chili Mango and Lime
Also known as the “Asian on Wheels” mobile, Chili Mango and Lime delivers a mix of Thai and Bangladeshi cuisine reflecting the backgrounds of the owners, husband and wife team Mimi and Jony. The truck features soups, sides, and spicy dishes like Bangladeshi Chicken Curry, Beef Bhuna, and Chicken Grapow. For a milder option, try the classic Pad Thai—rice noodles stir-fried with tofu, chicken, or vegetables.
The Chubby Chickpea
From its chicken kebab to its fried eggplant wrap, all of the Mediterranean-inspired dishes made by the Chubby Chickpea are 100 percent kosher. Enjoy a refreshing limonada with your meal—lemonade with a hint of mint.
The Pasta Pot
Carb-load with a 26-ounce pot of pasta, topped with your favorite sauce, for just $6.25. A family-operated business, the Pasta Pot’s Italian recipes, which include the signature mac-and-cheese and meatballs dish, date back to the owners’ great-grandmother.
Uyghur Kitchen
Get a taste of Turkey with a lamb kebab skewer, wrap, or salad at the only authentic Uyghur food truck in America.
Boston StrEATS is tonight, June 11, and every Thursday through August, from 5 to 9 p.m., weather permitting. Take MBTA bus number 47 towards Broadway to the Albany Street stop and turn right and walk down East Brookline Avenue, or an MBTA Orange Line trolley to either Back Bay or Mass.
