  1. How can they ruin the skyline with this building? Is society abandoning the value of aesthetics? Do we not value what is beautiful anymore? This building is like a 6-year-old crying for attention and that’s not cute, it’s not pretty. It’s just annoying and a headache. I understand the fact that it’s supposed to look like stacked books but we don’t have to sacrifice an aesthetically pleasing design for it. I also understand the “out with the old; in with the new” ideology, but there is also value in preserving the old. Preserving the old coveys prestige and a long-standing reputation. Again, we don’t have to sacrifice these things for a modern look and CAS/School of Theology is a testament to that. I think this is a pity and a shame to Boston University. They made the same mistake 1960s with the brutalist architecture and now we have City Hall in Government Center. When they built that, they believed they were embracing the future but they were clearly wrong and we’re paying for it today. Let’s not make the same mistake. Design rating from me 2/10
